Amie & Cody's Zigbone Farm Retreat Wedding

A September wedding at Zigbone Farm Retreat in the hills outside Frederick: a ceremony on the lawn in front of the ivy-covered cottage, wildflowers everywhere, and a golden-hour walk through the meadow with their dog Cujo along for all of it.

Zigbone Farm Retreat hides in the hills outside Frederick, and the first time you come around the path and see the orange stucco cottage under its coat of ivy, you understand why couples book it. Amie and Cody got married there in September, in front of that cottage, with the gardens still blooming and the meadows just starting to turn gold.

Frederick is my core wedding photography service area, about 45 minutes from my house in Shepherdstown with travel always included, and Zigbone is one of my favorite venues in it. This wedding is a big reason why.

Getting ready in the farmhouse

The florals ran through everything: the bouquet, the aisle markers, the arbor, and the bands of color at the sweetheart table. Florals by Lauren V built all of it, and the palette, blues and purples and oranges against all that green, is exactly what a September garden wedding should look like.

A ceremony in front of the cottage

The ceremony sat on the lawn facing the cottage, wooden chairs on the grass and flower arrangements marking the aisle. It is the kind of setup I love: no staging, no backdrop wall, just a very good building, a hillside, and the people you invited.

Golden hour in the meadow

September at Zigbone means the meadows go gold at the end of the day, and we used every minute of it. We walked out past the gardens, the light came in low across the grass, and Cujo came too, which is always the correct decision.

Cake, a first dance, and gold streamers

The reception brought a dress change, a gold-flecked cake, and a first dance under cafe lights. And when it was time to go, everyone lined the path with gold streamers and sent them off properly.
