Getting married in Rockport and Fulton, Texas

A beach ceremony with fewer than ten people costs nothing here beyond the parking fee. That makes Rockport the cheapest legitimate beach wedding on the Texas coast, and it has pavilions for when the weather turns.

A beach ceremony in Rockport with fewer than ten people costs nothing. Not a reduced fee, nothing, beyond the standard beach parking charge per vehicle. On a coast where Corpus wants $100 and Port Aransas wants $50, that makes Rockport the cheapest legitimate beach wedding on the Coastal Bend, and it is forty minutes up the road from Corpus.

What does it cost to get married on Rockport Beach?

Under ten people: nothing. For beach ceremonies with fewer than ten attendees there is no charge besides the usual beach parking fee per vehicle. Rockport Beach's own page is the authority.

Count honestly. Ten includes you, your officiant and your photographer, the same way these limits always do. Two of you plus an officiant plus me is four, which leaves six.

What if you have more than ten, or it rains?

Rockport Beach Park rents several event pavilions, which is the real reason this town belongs on your list. Most beach weddings on this coast have no plan B at all.

  • The Beachfront Pavilion sits on the beach facing Aransas Bay.
  • The Saltwater Pavilion looks over the saltwater lagoon toward Key Allegro, Leggett Channel and the Connie Hagar Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • There are further pavilions including the Blue Wave and Little Bay.
  • Two have indoor space with banquet tables and chairs included.

Viewings go through 361-729-6661. If you are marrying anywhere on this coast between June and November, having a roof already booked is not pessimism, it is planning.

The Fulton Mansion

The historic option. The Fulton Mansion stands on the Aransas Bay coastline and has been hosting celebrations for well over a century, with an event room and lawns looking out over the water. It is run as a Texas Historical Commission site, so it operates differently from a commercial venue and is worth contacting early.

Why Rockport rather than Corpus or Port Aransas?

It is quieter. Substantially. Rockport and Fulton are small coastal towns rather than a city or a spring-break island, and on a weekday outside season you can have a great deal of the shoreline to yourselves.

It is bay rather than open Gulf. Aransas Bay is calmer water and a different look: flatter, softer, more sheltered. If the crashing-surf image is what you want, Port Aransas and Padre are better. If you want still water and birds, this is the one.

It is genuinely cheap. Free under ten, and pavilions priced like a municipal facility rather than a wedding venue.

The birding is world class, which sounds like a non sequitur until you have guests who need something to do on the Friday. The Connie Hagar sanctuary is right there and the whole area sits on a major migratory flyway.

The paperwork

Rockport and Fulton sit in Aransas County, so that is where the marriage licence comes from. Texas imposes a 72-hour waiting period between issue and ceremony unless you qualify for a waiver, and the easiest waiver also takes $60 off the fee. The whole thing is in how to get married in Texas, and it is worth reading before you book travel.

If you are comparing this stretch of coast against the others, every beach permit jurisdiction from Rockport to Padre Island is mapped here. There are six and they all charge differently.

When to come

Winter. Mild, dry, hurricane season finished, and the towns quiet. It is also when the whooping cranes are at Aransas, which is not nothing.

Spring is lovely and busier, summer is hot and humid and inside hurricane season, and autumn stays in hurricane season until November. This coast took a serious hit from Harvey in 2017 and the towns rebuilt, which is worth remembering when you are deciding how much contingency an August date deserves. The longer argument is in why winter is the best time to get married on the Gulf coast.

When I am down there

My family lives on this coast, so my calendar moves here December through March and I take a limited number of dates with travel included. Windows go out each September. I am not a year-round Rockport photographer and will not pretend to be one.

Elopement coverage starts at $2,500. The pricing page has the rest and the Texas hub carries dates. Nearby: Port Aransas and Mustang Island, and Corpus Christi. When you have a date, send it over.

Common questions

Is a Rockport beach wedding free?

For beach ceremonies with fewer than ten people there is no charge beyond the usual beach parking fee per vehicle. Larger groups and the pavilions are rented separately. That makes Rockport the cheapest legitimate beach ceremony on the Coastal Bend for a genuinely small group.

Can you rent a pavilion at Rockport Beach?

Yes. Rockport Beach Park has several event pavilions including a beachfront pavilion facing Aransas Bay and a saltwater pavilion on the lagoon, and two have indoor space with banquet tables and chairs included. Call 361-729-6661 to arrange a viewing.

Where else can you get married in Rockport or Fulton?
